For Emergency Treatment of Opioid Overdoses

Narcan (naloxone hydrochloride) nasal spray is used for the treatment of an opioid overdose emergency with signs of breathing problems, and/or severe sleepiness, or unresponsiveness.

Narcan is to be administered immediately, in addition to seeking emergency medical care. Get emergency medical help right away after giving the first dose of Narcan, even if the person wakes up. Narcan is safe and effective in children for known or suspected opioid overdose. If there are prescription opioids in your home, Narcan should be there too.

Anyone exposed to prescription or illegal opioids should be aware of risk factors that may lead to an accidental, life-threatening opioid overdose.
